The Docs You Need from Your Contractor
When hiring a remodeling contractor, you can expect to receive the following documents:
Contract agreement: A binding legal document that outlines the agreement between you and the contractor
Scope of work: Defines what will be done during the renovation
Construction schedule: A timeline that outlines the project's start and finish dates, as well as when each stage will take place
Cost estimates: Detailed cost estimates, including hard costs for labor and materials, and soft costs for other expenses
Insurance and workers' compensation: Documents that show the contractor has insurance to cover accidents or injuries that may occur during the project
Business license: Proof that the contractor is a licensed business
List of subcontractors: If the contractor is using subcontractors, a list of who they are
